Aloe aristata, also known as Lace Aloe or Torch Plant, is a small, compact succulent known for its rosette-shaped form and attractive, lace-like white spots and teeth along the edges of its dark green leaves. The leaves are fleshy and slightly serrated, curving inward to form a dense rosette. During the blooming season, Aloe aristata can produce tall flower spikes with tubular orange or red flowers, adding a pop of colour to its striking foliage. It is native to South Africa and is popular among succulent enthusiasts due to its easy-care nature and appealing texture. With its compact rosette form and unique lace-like appearance, Aloe aristata is an excellent choice for succulent lovers and beginners alike. Its easy-care nature makes it a great addition to both indoor and outdoor gardens, adding a touch of green wherever it’s placed.

Light

Prefers bright, indirect light to full sun.

Ideally, place in a sunny spot like a south- or west-facing window.

Can tolerate some direct sunlight, but intense afternoon sun may cause the leaves to scorch.

Water

Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings.

Reduce watering during winter months when the plant’s growth slows.

Avoid water collecting in the rosette, as this can lead to rot.

Humidity

Thrives in average to low humidity environments.

Does not require high humidity and is well-suited for dry indoor conditions.

Avoid misting, as the plant prefers dry air.

Temperature

Ideal temperature range: 10-24°C.

Protect from frost and cold drafts, as Aloe aristata is not cold-hardy.

If grown outdoors, bring it inside during colder months or provide protection if temperatures drop below 5°C.

Soil

Use a well-draining cactus or succulent potting mix.

A mix of sand, perlite, and standard potting soil works well to prevent root rot.

Ensure the pot has drainage holes to allow excess water to escape.

Fertilisation

Feed with a diluted, balanced succulent or cactus fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer).

Fertilise once a month at half strength.

Do not fertilise during the fall and winter when the plant is dormant.

Repotting

Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant outgrows its pot.

Choose a slightly larger pot with good drainage.

Repotting is best done in spring or early summer when the plant is actively growing.

Pruning

Pruning is generally not needed, but you can remove any dead or damaged leaves at the base.

Trim off spent flower spikes to encourage more energy for foliage growth.

Regular cleaning of the leaves can help keep the plant healthy.

Propagation

Easily propagated through offsets or pups that grow around the base of the mother plant.

Gently remove the offsets and plant them in a separate pot with well-draining soil.

Allow the cut edges to callous over for a day or two before planting to prevent rot.
